After Michael got the kids to nap he lit the fire. the sights, sounds, smells, and taste kept him coming back for more. The fire called at him, he answered, and there was no turning his back.
Michael set up his roaster in the forest, it was a space that he couldn't get enough of, alone in the wild he practiced - until it was ready to share.
Today, Firebean roasts in Whitehorse using Yukon birch, pine, and spruce. The equipment and reach have grown, but every batch is still guided by fire, experience, and close attention.

I love telling this story...but it's more about you, than it is me...
So my first batch actually caught fire (you know...a special dark roast not even my mom could love) - but in that fiery moment of failure I had found it - THE THING I wanted to do.
So day after day I showed up - a student of the fire. splitting the wood, stoking the flames, listening, learning. Alone in the shack I would practice for nearly a decade until the coffee was perfect and I was ready to share.
Among many things Firebean is a reminder. To lean into the things that get you stoked. It's proof that the most delicious things happen when you follow your fire.
